Johnny Astro Original Instructions

"Aerodynamic Toy" Patent - We located over a dozen Sol Friedman patents. Alan Friedman has told me that of all the patents his Dad applied for, this is the only one he ever had refused. The Patent Examiner rejected the patent application because he believed there was absolutely no way that it could work. Sol Friedman's attorney took the working model and demonstrated it to the Patent Examiner, and the patent was awarded on the spot. Of course, the "Aerodynamic Toy" patent would be manufactured by the Topper Toy Company as Johnny Astro. Check out the actual patent documentation.

Johnny Astro Space Dashboard Underlays - Here are scans of two different designs used by the Topper Toy Company for the graphics that went under the space dashboard on the control center unit. If you are restoring a Johnny Astro and need one of these underlays, print this sheet onto "sticky back" paper, attach to thin cardboard (or manila file paper), cut out the pattern and install it.

Johnny Astro Instructions - A scan of the original instructions that were provided with the Johnny Astro Toy. The AEP workshop makes replication Landing Carriages, use these instructions to assist with attaching your carriage to the balloon.

UK Moon Probe Inflation Gauge - A scan of the original balloon template for the United Kingdom version of the Johnny Astro toy. The AEP workshop recently came across an original in pretty good condition, and here it is! Note that while the diameter of the circular opening is identical to the U.S. version of the template, the overall size of the UK template is slightly bigger than the U.S. version. Given the cool space graphics - the United Kingdom Moon Inflation Gauge gets our vote as the better spacecraft template.

UK Launching Pad - A scan of the original launching pad for the United Kingdom version of the Johnny Astro toy. The AEP workshop recently came across an original in decent condition, and we got some help from Charlie in piecing together the two "half scans" to make the full image. The U.K. Launching Pad is of course a little bit different than its U.S. counterpart, and it is very cool.

UK Johnny Astro Instructions - A scan of the original instructions that were provided with the United Kingdom Version of the Johnny Astro toy. I never knew that there was a "tripod attachment" used to help attach the landing carriages to the balloon, and the "altitude control lever" pictured does not look anything at all like the part the AEP workshop molded from an original UK set - but it rather looks like the American version of this part. Check these things out along with the other nuances specific to the United Kingdom version instructions.

We don’t have scans of the instruction sheets for the Johnny Astro Explorer, Moon And Mars Landing Base Set or any toy industry publications about Johnny Astro. If you have any of these, please Email the AEP website a copy and we will post them. Also, if you have any scans that are better than the ones already on this web page, send them to us and they will be posted. Thank you - Bob.
